Energy Market Analyst
Overview:
Identify and track the drivers that are likely to influence the North American energy markets, with particular emphasis on power, over both the short- and long-term horizon (supply / demand, input prices, technological developments, evolution of long-term costs, regulatory environments, market structure, etc.).The Market Evaluation Analyst supports the market analysis of the Greenfield/Brownfield projects, evaluation of transactions and maintenance of proprietary modeling tools that are used by Mirant for short and long term evaluation of the power markets. Additionally, Analyst will conduct studies using a suite of models currently used by Mirant (both proprietary and external). Provide Mirant with quantitative and qualitative inputs into decisions associated with power markets (long-term contracts, acquisitions, development, sale, retirement, mothballing, repowering, retrofits, dispatch strategies), as well as regular portfolio-wide valuation updates.
Responsibilities:
Track, compile, and manage data (load, temperature and other variables) for completeness, accuracy, and relevance
Produce analyses and demonstrate the ability to decompose, isolate components and communicate results effectively
In addition to the model development assignments, support the market analyses and valuation work by running various in-house models, researching market fundamentals
Evaluate capital expenditure projects on existing assets (retrofits, environmental upgrades, repowering options)
Track forward market fundamentals for assigned region(s)
Understand modeling tools for short- and long- term evaluation of assets, transactions, load forecasts
Solid understanding of the Competitive Energy industry in order to solve analytical problems that may be presented.
Familiarity with Data Sources and Energy Structure.
Translate Quantitative analysis, price forecasts, industry outlook and near term forecasts into presentations for Management and Executives.
